About

Hi! I am Alena, a 4th year Mechanical Engineering major with minors in Math and Materials Science/Engineering at Northeastern University's Honors Program. I am highly interested in the fabrication and application of materials to engineering projects and products. I have always loved building things and wondering how things work since I was young, and knew I wanted to be an engineer ever since Elementary School when I realized how cool it was that my grandfather was helping to design and build planes. I never knew Materials Engineering existed until I signed up for a study abroad program in Belize because my favorite professor led it. It happened to focus on Archaeological Materials and Ceramics, and I soon fell in love with learning as much as possible about how materials perform and how they can be made better.
Outside of engineering, my interests lie around the outdoors – I love skiing, playing tennis, running, hiking, hammocking, and exploring National/State parks around the world! I love being on the move as well; discovering new restaurants and hiking spots - I love learning new things and exploring different areas of my interests, both outside of and within Materials Engineering. Perhaps it was my love of the outdoors and my childhood interest in geological formations that subconsciously drew me to Materials Science specifically.
As a soon-to-be graduate, I am currently looking for full-time work starting in May 2022. I hope to get a Masters or PhD in Materials Engineering down the line to further my Materials education.
